Naukati's oyster nursery helps the shellfish industry grow

WRANGELL, ALASKA In its five year life, the oyster nursery in Naukati on Prince of Wales Island has become more and more successful. Now the largest seed supplier in Alaska, the year-round nursery supplies oyster seed, or spat, to almost 70% of all oyster farmers in the state. As the shellfish industry expands, Naukati's nursery is staying in stride with a program for new farmers as well as a grant for the planning and design of a regional shellfish processing facility. KSTK's Lisa Phu recently visited the nursery in Naukati and files this report.
