WRANGELL, ALASKA The day after Barack Obama accepts the democratic nomination for United States president, presumptive republican candidate John McCain makes a surprise announcement – Alaska governor Sarah Palin will be his running mate for the presidential race. Palin, who's in the midst of her first term as governor, may be the next vice president of the United States.

There is one open seat on the Wrangell Public School Board for the Oct. 7 City and Borough of Wrangell regular election. Aleisha Mollen is running against incumbent school board president Susan Eagle for a three-year term as school board member.
Walter Moorhead is running unopposed for a three-year term on the Port Commission in the Oct. 7 City and Borough of Wrangell regular election. more
