Governor Sarah Palin made a stop in Wrangell,Wednesday afternoon, during a trip through the Southeast to sign a bill concerning boating safety. It was Palin's first visit to city as Alaska governor. Her arrival to Wrangell was delayed because she was in Petersburg signing an education bill sponsored by Wrangell Representative Peggy Wilson. As KSTK's Tony Gorman reports, many Wrangellites were willing to wait.

The 57th Annual King Salmon Derby in Wrangell is off to a slow start. As KSTK's Tony Gorman reports, Derby officials are hoping things will pick up in the coming weeks.

Newly-installed Bishop Edward J Burns of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Juneau recently paid the City of Wrangell a visit. Wrangell is home to the oldest Catholic Church in the state. As KSTK's Tony Gorman found out, this wasn't the first time the bishop made a trip to Wrangell.

Congress recently reauthorized the Secure Rural Schools and Community Determination Act of 2000. Counties across the nation hurting from a declining timber industry rely on the act for federal funding for schools and community projects. Mother Nature didn't stop two groups of youngsters from trekking up the Stikine River. Fourth graders from Evergreen Elementary and another group from Petersburg engaged in numerous activities as part of the annual Stikine River Field Trip.
