Local Child Leads by Example Despite Rare Speech Disorder

This weekend, Wrangellites will be geared up in support of a local child who has a rare disorder. Carter Hammer was diagnosed with Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) when he was three years-old. Since then, his family had to make adjustments and receive outside help in order to accommodate his needs. The 2009 Wrangell Walk for Childhood Apraxia of Speech will take place, Saturday, at Shoemaker Park in an effort to raise awareness about Carter's disorder. Canada to Invest in Northwest Transmission Line in British Columbia

Canada is officially on board with a power line in Northwest British Columbia. Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced, Wednesday, from Washington, D.C., that the federal government will invest in a transmission line project that will run along Highway 37 in British Columbia. The announcement is not only a big win for BC Development proponents, but for the City and Borough of Wrangell and other supporters which has long pushed for an electrical intertie from Alaska to British Columbia. 'In The Now' debuts at the Klondike Road Relay

Over 1,000 runners and walkers from Alaska and Canada descended onto Skagway this past weekend to participate in the 27th Annual Klondike Trail of '98 International Road Relay. It's a race that stretches across 110 miles and ends in Whitehorse, Canada. KSTK's Lisa Phu journeyed to the famed event with a team from southeast and files this story.

WHS X-Country Makes Strong Statement in Metlakatla

The WHS Cross Country team's road to the regional title stopped in Metlakatla over the weekend. Both boys and girls were looking to improve on their finish from the Wrangell Invitational. It wasn't Christmas, but it was close enough as Wrangellites were out and about, last Saturday, trying to get the jump on the best deals possible. The day is known as Tax Free Day where shoppers can enjoy the luxury of buying goods and supplies minus the seven percent city tax.
