The Borough Assembly’s 3 to 2 vote approving a special election for the recall of 8 hospital board members is now void.

According to Wrangell Municipal code, “an affirmative vote of four members of the assembly is required for adoption of a resolution.”

In a public announcement today, Borough Manager Timothy Rooney states that he and Borough Clerk Christie Jamieson consulted with the City Attorney and agree that the motion was inaccurately recorded as having passed and in accordance with municipal code, the motion fails.

Last night’s resolution was for a June 12th special election for the public to vote on whether to recall 8 out of the 9 members who sit on Wrangell Medical Center’s Board of Directors.

The petitioned board members are Jim Nelson, Linda Bjorge, Lurine McGee, Sylvia Ettafaugh, Jake Harris, Delores Norman, LeAnn Rinehart, and Hospital Board Chairman Mark Robinson.

The Borough Assembly will hold a special meeting Tuesday, May 1st to re-vote on the proposed resolution for a special election. The meeting is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers.
