It’s not everyday that a person from a tiny remote village in Alaska gets national attention. But that’s what’s happening to Matt Bissonnette, a former Navy Seal who has penned a book titled “No Easy Day”, about killing Osama Bin Laden.
Writing under the pseudonym Matt Owen, a lot of media says Bissonnette hails from Wrangell. But as KYUK’s Angela Denning-Barnes reports from Bethel, Bissonnette grew up in a small Western Alaska village, where residents remember him fondly.
The Alaska Native Sisterhood is celebrating its 100th anniversary this week in Wrangell—where it was founded—in conjunction with the Alaska Native Brotherhood and sisterhood Grand Camp annual convention. The Native rights group is honoring its past while contemplating its future. more
The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning for Southeast Alaska in effect from 8 am to 4 pm Friday, October 9th. Sustained winds of around 40 MPH with gusts of 55 to 75 MPH. This storm will be accompanied by heavy rain on Friday. more
