Tuesday’s Borough Assembly meeting saw the approval of all items on the agenda as well as the appointment of a new mayor. Assembly member David Jack will be serving as Borough Mayor until the end of the term in October 2013.

Wrangell’s annual Tent City Days festival was last weekend. This is the first in a series of audio postcards KSTK’s Shady Grove Oliver sent back from the event. In this postcard, local soap maker Jamie Townsend speaks about her craft at her Gold Rush Flea Market booth.

There are thousands of miles of fiber optic cables snaking along the ocean floor. They bring telephone service, television, and the internet to much of world. When an earthquake struck off the coast of Southeast Alaska in January, the cables that provide Internet to Wrangell were damaged. A cable repair ship, called the Wave Venture, was called to help.
