The candidate filing period closed Monday for Wrangell’s local election. There are only two contested seats this year, and they are both on the Wrangell Public School Board.

Tammy Groshong, Aleisha Mollen and Rolland Howell are vying for two three-year terms on the school board. Groshong and Mollen are current school board members.

Beth Comstock and Pam McCloskey are running for an unexpired term on the school board.

Borough Assembly members David Powell and Becky Rooney are running for re-election.

Clay Hammer and John Martin are running for re-election to the Port Commission.

On the hospital board, Woody Wilson is running for re-election, and Maxi Wiederspohn is running for an open seat.

There are also two propositions on the ballot this year. One would amend the charter for the Thomas Bay Power Authority, and the other would make Wrangell elected officials exempt from the financial disclosure law.

The borough election is Oct. 6. Voters must register by Sept. 6 to vote in the local election.
