Nine Wrangell wrestlers are headed to state after regionals wrapped up in Sitka this weekend. Hannah Brown, Jonah Comstock, Jonathan Barratt, Ian Jenson, Sig Decker, Sam Armstrong, Hunter Wiederspohn, Dawson Miller and Caleb Groshong will compete in Anchorage for state titles.

In Sitka, Comstock took first in the 98-pound weight class, pinning Gabriel Klushkan just under three minutes into the match. Groshong, 220 pounds, also took the top spot by pinning his opponent. Jenson and Miller placed first by decision. Decker’s first-place match came to an early end when James Heppe of Klawock was injured.

Decker, Armstrong and Miller took home all-academic awards for their success in the classroom during the season. The Wolves also took home first as a team in the 2A division. State matches will be held in Anchorage Dec. 16 and 17.
