A missing Wrangell boater was found dead Wednesday afternoon, according to a dispatch from the Alaska State Troopers.
Alaska State Troopers, the U.S. Coast Guard and Wrangell Search and Rescue are searching for an overdue boater in the Wrangell area. Kenneth Trammel left town Nov. 5 on the 38-foot Thalassa.
Wrangell’s Alaska Wildlife Trooper position has been reinstated. But according to Alaska State Troopers spokeswoman Beth Ipsen, that could still change before the state budget is finalized.
A Nevada man was found dead this week at a logging site 12 miles west of Wrangell. Alaska State Troopers say the cause of death is unknown.
Wrangell could lose its only Alaska Wildlife Trooper to state budget cuts. The Department of Public Safety is not planning to fill the vacancy left in January by Alaska Wildlife Trooper Scott Bjork.
Alaska State Troopers say they ended separate searches for two missing Southeast residents because they ran out of options. Spokeswoman Megan Peters says there’s no more information on the whereabouts of Wrangell’s Colin Buness and Hyder’s Cathleen Currie.
