Second phase of Baht timber sale is on roadless Tongass units

The Forest Service of the Tongass National Forest has signed the decision to move forward with the second phase of the Baht timber sale on Zarembo Island, located 17 miles west of Wrangell. This phase of the sale is located in units of the forest that are currently roadless, and the sale will require the construction of just over two miles of road. This is on top of the 12 miles already proposed for the first phase of the timber sale.

Wrangell's fourth ends on firey note

Around thirty people got a running – or walking – start on Wrangell's July fourth with the Parks and Rec Fun Run. The rest of the day continued in the same fast pace with the Fourth of July parade, logging show, junior olympics, street games, fireworks, and much, much more. Live bluegrass comes to Wrangell

The Great Alaska Bluegrass Band, with guest artist Sean Tracey, is in Wrangell for various live performances throughout the fourth of July holiday. If you missed hearing them last night at the Nolan Center, you still have three more chances to hear them perform. The Great Alaska Bluegrass Band stopped by the KSTK studio Wednesday afternoon to play some music and talk about the band.

Tiffany Merritt wins 2008 Gravity Car Race

One of Wrangell's well-loved July Fourth events had kids and adults helmeted, strapped, and speeding down Second Avenue. The 2008 Gravity Car Race took place Tuesday night with seven participants, five homemade cars, and many, many nervous onlookers.
