Wrangellites Look for a Recreational Plan for the Ranger District

For years, the Tongass National Forest has been one of the biggest attractions in Southeast Alaska. Some local residents are looking to bring more visitors to the area by improving its recreational activities. Last week, Wrangellites gathered at the Saint Philip's Episcopal Church Meeting Hall to discuss ways to develop a long-term recreational and economic development plan for the Wrangell Ranger District. TBPA wants to halt disagreements on energy

Despite competing FERC permit applications for Ruth Lake as well as some other disagreements regarding energy in the region, Wrangell and Petersburg may soon be working toward the same goals once again. At last week's commission board meeting of Thomas Bay Power Authority, the commissioners decided to take the leadership role in finding common ground between the two communities on power development. 2009 Fish Camp

Last month, a group of young Wrangellites wrapped up the First Annual Fish Camp. The group took a trip up the Stikine River where they learned how to catch and prepare smoked fish. The trip was funded through a traditional foods grant from the Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC). Local SEARHC Health Advocate Tammi Meissner recently talked with KSTK's Tony Gorman about the experience.

Alaska Fish and Game Predicts Strong Pink Run
