The Johnson O'Malley program has just started up again in Wrangell. With a dedicated parent committee, eager instructors, and Celebration coming up next summer, JOM participants have a lot to look forward to. KSTK's Lisa Phu visited the JOM room in the SNO building during the program's open house week and files this report.

This week, the Wrangell Assembly voted unanimously to make a membership pledge to the Alaska-Canada Energy Coalition. Since last summer, Wrangell has taken the lead in creating the organization as part of its push to create an AK-BC Intertie. KSTK's Tony Gorman reports.

State Education Commissioner Larry LeDoux is letting everyone know that he is headstrong on improving Alaska's education system. One of the first things that he noticed when he took the job in 2008 was that state did not have a comprehensive plan. Since then, the former principal and superintendent from Kodiak has been working with officials on every level to develop such a plan. LeDoux discussed the plan with local educators and community members during a two-day visit to Wrangell. KSTK's Tony Gorman reports.

The Borough of Wrangell is expected to bring in another source of revenue through a statewide fish tax program. The Shared Fisheries Business Tax Program provides a sharing of state fish tax collected outside municipal boundaries with other municipalities affected by fishing industry activities. Based on fisheries activities reported by fish processors, municipalities across the state shared approximately $1.64 million in 2008. KSTK's Tony Gorman reports.

The Wrangell High School Volleyball team took a young squad to Prince of Wales Island to face Klawock and Craig. It was their final road test before next month's Region V Tournament. As KSTK's Tony Gorman reports, the Lady Wolves were unable to overcome fatigue during their trip to POW.
