Coast Guard, ADEC respond to sunken tug

The 60-foot towing vessel Silver Bay II sank in approximately 120 feet of water about five miles south of the city of Wrangell late Tuesday afternoon. The vessel had been moored at the former Silver Bay Logging facility for the last five years.

Containment booms in place near sunken tug boat

A tug boat sank near Silver Bay Logging in Wrangell Tuesday afternoon.

The Coast Guard and the Department of Environmental Conservation are working with the boat’s caretaker to put up containment boom and prevent any leaking oil from traveling. There were reportedly 3500 gallons of diesel fuel on board at the time of sinking.
