The chief financial officer of Wrangell Medical Center and Alaska Island Community Services has resigned to pursue a different job opportunity.

Dana Strong has been the CFO for the medical center since August 2013.

At last Wednesday’s meeting, the WMC Board of Directors discussed possible courses of action to fill the CFO position, but they did not make a decision.

WMC Chief Executive Marla Sanger said she will first consult with AICS.

“We are still interested in seeing if we can collaborate together to provide some financial services that would be shared across both of our systems,” Sanger said.

The hospital board also went over issues it is having with accounts receivable.

Sanger said part of the problem is a new computer program that is supposed to reimburse hospitals for Medicaid patient care.

“Something has gone wrong with the way the system is functioning from the very beginning, and it has resulted in very major delays in receiving payment from Medicaid,” Sanger said.

Wrangell Medical Center also won an achievement award from its quality improvement organization.
