Wrangell is back on hydroelectric power following a power outage Thursday morning.

Power was out in Wrangell, Petersburg and Ketchikan after Wednesday night’s storm coated a Ketchikan power plant in salt.

According to Ketchikan Public Utilities Electric Division Manager Andy Donato, salt caused insulators at Bailey Power Plant to shut down.

The salt build-up tripped the Swan Lake hydroelectric facility near Ketchikan, which then affected the Tyee Lake facility through the intertie.

Wrangell switched to diesel power around 8 a.m., and was back on hydroelectric power at 11 a.m.
