The sentencing of a former Wrangell doctor convicted of distributing and receiving child pornography has been delayed because he has a new lawyer.
Greg Salard’s sentencing was initially scheduled for last Friday, but it was pushed back to Dec. 3.
A public defender represented Salard during his jury trial in U.S. District Court in Juneau. After he was found guilty in July, he got a private attorney who will decide whether there are adequate grounds to ask for a new trial.
Salard is facing a sentence of five to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for each charge. He could be on supervised release for five years to life.
Salard has been at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center in Juneau since his arrest one year ago.
After his sentencing, he will be extradited to Louisiana to face a charge of aggravated rape.
