A popular U.S. Forest Service cabin near Wrangell is closed for at least two weeks because of vandalism.
Damage to the Middle Ridge cabin occurred sometime last week, said Randy Griffith of the Wrangell Ranger District.
Griffith said he is not sure about the extent of the damage, but it involves broken furniture, carvings and litter.
Law enforcement officers are investigating the incident. Griffith said Forest Service staff are going to the cabin to survey the damage.
The cabin is closed until Dec. 15, but it may be closed longer depending on what repairs need to be made.
Law enforcement officers were notified of the damage Sunday and reported it to the Forest Service.
The Middle Ridge cabin is the only cabin on the road system near Wrangell.
