The Rainforest Islands Ferry is in operation again but users in Wrangell and Petersburg will need to call and reserve in advance to ensure pick up in those communities.
The North End Ferry Authority voted to start ferry service on April 15, 2016 offering passenger and ferry service between Coffman Cove on Prince of Wales Island, Wrangell and Petersburg aboard the M/V Rainforest Islander. The ferry is scheduled to run four days per week, Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday for approximately 26 weeks.
Rainforest Islands Ferry representatives state that passengers in Wrangell and Petersburg need to call for reservations in advance to ensure pick up. If advance reservations are not made, the Rainforest Islander may not travel to all communities on a given day.
Representatives from the ferry service say if there are only walk-on passengers from Wrangell, they will meet the ferry at the Reliance launch ramp. If there are vehicles getting on in Wrangell, the Shoemaker launch ramp may be used.
Passengers in Wrangell are advised to contact the Rainforest Islands Ferry to confirm reservations and loading location.
