Wrangell’s 4th of July Royalty Contestants are securing sponsors, planning events and organizing their teams to raise money for Wrangell’s biggest event of the year. Alex Angerman and Kyla Teat have announced they are running for 4th of July “Queen”. Cindy Sweat visited with the candidates who have different but similar reasons for running.

“ I’m Kyla Teat, I’m running for Queen to help give back to the community of Wrangell for one, because they’ve done so much for me and my family I’m also running for queen to earn money for college. I’ve applied and been accepted to the University of Alaska Fairbanks Alaska and that’s where I’ll be going to College.”

“Hi, I’m Alex Angerman, I’m running for Queen because I want to say thank you to the community for helping me move up here. I’m actually from Spokane Washington and I moved up here 5 years ago. The money I earn from the race will be used as a starting point for my education outside of Wrangell. I’m a Junior in Wrangell High School so I will be graduating with the class of 2017 and hope to be going into the field of Journalism”

Kayla and Alex are both offering street food during the month of June. People will find the Queen food booths in the new covered pavilion on the corner of Front and Lynch Street . The new location provides protection from the weather for the workers in the booths and for diners.

Kayla and Alex are friends as well as competitors… and addition to food booths, the candidates plan to work together on other fundraising events.

“We are, I think both of our teams are, going to do a joint crab feed for Father’s day.   I don’t know if that’s finalized yet, but a big dinner for Father’s day basically. I think we should probably do some car washes… for sure and have a carnival that we can probably both do together.”
