Kim Wickman and Chris Buness make up the team at WCA’s IGAP department. (June Leffler/ KSTK)

Talk on the Rock is KSTK’s live call-in show. Every Tuesday at 1pm we welcome a local guest to discuss events and topics of interest to our little island town. For this week’s episode, host June Leffler spoke to Chris Buness and Kim Wickman with the local tribe’s IGAP department. The two run local projects aimed at protecting human health on this island. That includes monitoring our natural resources, solid waste disposal and health and science education. Some of those projects include disposing used gillnets (Kim says IGAP collected 6,000 pounds of that stuff in 2018!), monitoring for PSP in shellfish in our closest waters, and having students help out with some of the testing in the process.

IGAP is hosting its e-waste event March 23rd at the carving shed. Bring any electronics that you’re looking to dispose of.
