After one year on the job, Wrangell’s elementary school principal has resigned from the district. Virginia Tulley will finish out the school year. She said “I loved my experience here”. She is returning to her home in Arizona.

Wrangell’s last elementary school principal resigned after one year as well.

In other school news, the district passed a resolution opposing reductions to education funding. Gov. Mike Dunleavy’s proposed budget would cut about $1 million from the local district. However, the final budget for schools is still up in the air. While the governor proposed a $309 million cut to the Department of Education, the House Finance Committee’s version of the budget increased funding by $2.8 million.

Wrangell Public Schools will finalize its district budget by the end of the month, though it will most likely be amended to reflect the state’s final budget.
