Courtney Buoncore is a fellow for the Society for Wilderness Stewardship. (June Leffler/ KSTK)

Talk on the Rock is KSTK’s live call-in show. Every Tuesday at 1pm we welcome a local guest to discuss events and topics of interest to our little island town. For this week’s episode, host June Leffler spoke with Courtney Buoncore. Since June, Courtney has split her time between Ketchikan and Wrangell as a fellow for the Society for Wilderness Stewardship. She put together a wilderness characterization for Wrangell. It documents our area’s natural resources, biodiversity, history, recreation and subsistence opportunities. Courtney says this qualitative narrative gives a big picture approach to what’s of value to the ecology of our region and the folks that live here. The document is shared with the federal government to guide any further more quantitative studies.
