Talk on the Rock is KSTK’s live call-in show. Every Tuesday at 1pm we welcome a local guest to discuss events and topics of interest to our little island town. For this week’s episode, host June Leffler spoke with Christi Henthorn. She has ties to Alaska, having spent several years living in Sitka. Now she is actively beekeeping at her home in North Carolina. Christi discussed the life the bees, from the female-ran operation of the honeybees’ hive to impacts of pesticides and large, commercial beekeeping. Christi also describes the differences between honeybees, which humans have harnessed on large and small scales, and native bee species which are just as critical for pollination.

She operates Wuerker Bee Apiary in Oxford, NC.
