Wrangell High School’s basketball teams were laid up in Haines an extra day due to state transportation delays. Seventeen students and four coaches were expecting to board the ferry Sunday and arrive in Wrangell early Monday morning, according to the local school district. That ferry trip was cancelled by the state Department of Transportation. DOT laid up the Matanuska in Juneau for engine repairs.

DOT hired Allen Marine in Juneau to make up for the Matanuska’s sailings. Southbound passengers will depart Haines at 3:30 Monday. Wrangell students and coaches will arrive in Juneau, spend the night at Thunder Mountain High School, and take the morning jet south Tuesday.
