Talk on the Rock is KSTK’s live call-in show. Every Tuesday at 1pm we welcome a local guest to discuss events and topics of interest to our little island town. For this week’s episode, host June Leffler spoke with Carol Rushmore and Esther Ashton about the upcoming 2020 Census. The Census is a federal effort to gather an accurate head count of the nation. But Alaska state, municipal and tribal leaders are reaching out to make sure every Alaskan is counted. Esther spoke about how federal programs (like SNAP, WIC and Headstart) rely on census data. Carol went through the ten-questions of the Census questionnaire, hoping to demystify the process. Carol wants everyone to know the Census is safe, quick and important.

The library, tribe and Salvation Army will help anyone with their Census questionnaire on Census day, April 1st. You can fill out the questionnaire for you and your family this month online, or when a paper form is dropped off at your door.
