Talk on the Rock is KSTK’s live call-in show. Every Tuesday at 1pm we welcome a local guest to discuss events and topics of interest to our little island town. For this week’s episode, host June Leffler spoke with Vivian Faith Prescott. The local author spoke to us about her new collection of poetry, Silty Water People, and the power of personal creativity. She read Covid-19 inspired poems, about air hugs, the ability to find hope, and protecting one another. Art is essential for creative folks, and Vivian continues to see those in Wrangell creating beautiful masks, flower arrangements and photographs. Even though she finds her worries are distracting her, she has still been creating. KSTK asked Vivian to give a prompt for our listeners to create poetry or any other art. Vivian recommends making a a three-dimensional collage. Stick to photos and magazine cuttings if you like, but Vivian says to start your collage by collecting found objects that speak you. Then arrange those as you see fit. Vivian and KSTK would love to see your collages, snap a photo and send those our way.
Vivian’s book Silty Water People is available online. She has a few copies on hand to spare as well.
