Another Wrangell resident has tested positive for COVID-19, city officials said Thursday.

This is Wrangell’s 27th case of COVID-19, and the only active case in the community. Twenty-six others who were previously diagnosed have since recovered.

City officials did not report whether the case was asymptomatic or symptomatic, or whether or not the individual was in isolation. They did not provide information about where the individual was tested.

The city says the state Section of Epidemiology is overwhelmed with the current spike of COVID-19 cases. Individuals who test positive are being asked to conduct their own contact tracing by informing recent close contacts.

The last day of free asymptomatic community COVID-19 testing from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Saturday, December 19. Asymptomatic testing will still be available after Saturday, but will no longer be free. If you are symptomatic or have other COVID-related questions, call SEARHC’s COVID-19 hotline at (907) 966-8799.
