Wrangell’s indoor recreation activities are cancelled until further notice and the public library will transition to curbside service only, Wrangell officials announced Wednesday evening.

In a statement, the city said Wrangell is experiencing a COVID-19 outbreak, and announced three more cases of COVID in the community. That brings Wrangell’s known active case count to 12, by far the highest since the start of the pandemic over a year ago.

Officials added that masks are required in all city facilities, and rentals and reservations of indoor Parks & Rec facilities and the Nolan Center are suspended until further notice.

City officials are asking Wrangellites to isolate and get tested if showing flu-like symptoms. They’re also encouraging masking up, washing hands and disinfecting surfaces, limiting trips in public and keeping social circles small.

Free asymptomatic COVID-19 testing is available to the community every day at the airport during jet arrivals (around 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.).

Wrangellites who are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms or have other COVID-related questions can call SEARHC’s COVID-19 hotline at (907) 966-8799.

Registration is open to all people in Wrangell over the age of 16 who want to receive COVID-19 vaccinations. Sign up at covid19.searhc.org. You’ll be emailed when an appointment slot is available.
