Here is your Recreation and Road Report for the week of June 30th – July 4th.

Road Conditions/Construction and Logging Activity:

  • Logging activities and log haul continue from the Upper Basin area-Yoder Timber Sale to FS road number 6263 into the industrial park in Wrangell-Matney Lumber. 
  • Logging and log haul from the Fool’s Inlet area-Wrangell Island #1 Timber Sale may be occurring from FS road 6270.
  • Middle Ridge Road FS ___ is still closed.

Anan Wildlife Observatory:  

  • Anan Wildlife Observatory permit season starts July 5th.  There are still permits available for most days on recreation.gov if you have your own boat/floatplane to get there. 
  •  If there are no more permits available on recreation.gov for the day you are interested in, 4 permits each day are available through weekly lotteries.
  •  All lottery requests must be made in person at the Wrangell Ranger District office. Weekly requests will be collected by Mondays at 4:30 and awarded on Tuesdays by noon.

The Anan Wildlife Observatory explore.org cameras are live with 2 new views!  Bears have been seen from the cameras already.

Recreational Reminders:             

  • Forest Explorers will be this Tuesday from 10:30 – 12:00 at the Nature Trail.
  • Reading with a Ranger will be at the Library this Thursday from 10:30-12. Kids are invited to join for some fun activities!
  • The Rec. crew did an amazing job clearing and fixing the hot tubs trail!
  • The Rec. crew has moved a load of lumber to the hot tubs dock; it is for a current ongoing project to replace part of the outdoor tub deck. Please be respectful while visiting the tubs.
  • A reminder to please not wound trees while out in the forest, harm to our trees could cause them to become sick and potentially hazardous later. Middle Ridge Road is still closed. Please be mindful of the closure.
