By now you’ve probably heard that 1.1 billion has been cut from public broadcasting. This means 100% of KSTK’s federal funds have evaporated. This isn’t the outcome we hoped for and it’s an outcome that many of you helped us advocate against.
It’s tough, but we know from the text messages, phone calls, emails, visits with people at the grocery store and post office, that many of you value KSTK’s services. To address KSTK’s funding gap, we are approaching the situation through a combination of additional budget cuts, increased shared services with other stations, requests for in-kind contributions, requests for foundation funding, and asking for local financial contributions. In addition, over the coming weeks and months, what you hear on KSTK will change because cutting the budget means making changes.
With that in mind, here are ways you can help:
Attend a fundraising event
- KSTK’s Beach Blowout Live Music Event is Saturday, August 9th at the Nolan Center featuring live music with Dara Rilatos and the Planktonix from Juneau. Beer, wine, soft drinks and appetizers will be available. Under 21 welcome with legal guardian. $20 per person. Tickets available now at KSTK.
- KSTK’s Golf For Radio Tournament sponsored by AP&T. Sunday, August 17th. 9-hole, best ball format with cash and prizes plus a putting contest after the tournament.
Support through business sponsorship
- Contact Anna Angerman at KSTK to talk about purchasing a business sponsorship announcement. This supports KSTK and helps market your business.
Make a contribution
- Please consider a sustaining membership with a monthly ‘auto-pay’ option.
- Or, make a one-time generous gift.
The road ahead is not going to be easy, and ultimately, whether KSTK survives this drastic removal of funding is uncertain. What is certain, is KSTK’s determination and dedication to pursuing all funding options and working together with you for a broadcast future in Wrangell. We will do this, as always, with you and for you.
