After four days of a boil water advisory in Wrangell, the borough lifted the notice and the need to conserve water on Wednesday afternoon.
City employees flushed hundreds of thousands of gallons of clean water through the system in town. That includes 6-mile on Zimovia Hwy. and near the airport.
A malfunction in the dissolved air flotation system occurred Sunday. That led to the boil water notice and the need to conserve water. This system removes suspended particles from the water supply.
From Monday night until Wednesday afternoon, staff at the water treatment plant tested the water, and it was running clean.
Even though clean water is in the system, the Centers for Disease Control recommends residents take the following steps: run each faucet with cold water for five minutes, starting with the tap closest to where the water line runs into each home.
If there are problems with flow, they say to remove screens, filters or aerators in case they’re clogged.
After flushing with cold water, residents should run hot water to flush the hot water heater. The CDC says to run the hot water until the water cools and to flush any other appliances connected to water.
Ice should be discarded if it was made after noon on Sunday.
Additionally, surfaces that came in contact with unboiled water after the notice should be disinfected.
