The Wrangell Borough Assembly will consider a resolution to support families displaced by Typhoon Halong at today’s meeting.
If passed, the borough manager would coordinate with state and federal agencies on housing, education and workforce support.
Wrangell and its community partners, like Trident Seafoods, could temporarily accommodate up to 25 families.
Other partners include the Wrangell Public School District, Wrangell Cooperative Association, SEARHC and the U.S. Forest Service.
Additionally, the assembly will consider amending the municipal code under the nuisances section. When it was amended in 2019, the city did not add a section on violations. This ordinance would add a section labeled Certain Conditions Declared Nuisances. One of these nuisances include public exposure of a person having a contagious disease . Another nuisance includes any pit or hole that endangers the public.
In other new business, the assembly will consider approving professional services with architectural and engineering firm LCG Lantech for school renovations.
The renovations on the district’s three schools will cost $797,192.50: Evergreen Elementary, Stikine Middle School and Wrangell High School. Some of the renovations include replacing and repairing roofing, upgrading siding, replacing wall framing and sheathing, and replacing rotten foundation beams.
The Wrangell Borough Assembly will hold its regular meeting on Tuesday, October 28th at 7 p.m. in the Borough Assembly Chambers at Wrangell City Hall. This follows a work session at 6 p.m. about Wrangell’s economic report with a presentation.
