The Wrangell Borough Assembly plans to accept $410,700 from six sales of Alder Top Subdivision lots at Tuesday night’s meeting. The borough will place these funds in the Residential Construction fund.
The borough had 19 Alder Top lots out through a bid process, which ended Dec. 1.
Buyers include Representative Jeremy Bynum, John Leuer, Ryan Reeves, Isaac Chen, Russell Walls and David McHolland.
The sold lots ranged between $56,600 and $80,300. One buyer defaulted on a lot, leaving four lots still for sale, which are currently listed on Public Surplus. They will be listed in 30-day increments until each one is sold.
Waterfront Tidelands Fill and Abutment Project
Also at the meeting, the assembly plans to approve amending the FY26 budget to transfer $245,000 from the port fund to the capital improvement fund.
The money will go towards the design phase for the Waterfront Tidelands Fill and Abutment Project. This fulfills the borough’s responsibility on the tideland lease with American Cruise Lines. In return, the cruise line will construct a floating dock and transfer bridge in the downtown waterfront area.
Ports and Harbors received a $4 million revenue bond to finance the waterfront fill project, which was facilitated by a Municipal Bond Bank application. This bond would cover both design and construction.
Conceptual design phase
Currently, the board is accepted to approve PND Engineers to develop a conceptual design for both the cruise company and the borough regarding the waterfront development project.
The firm will survey the sea floor and the engineers will evaluate the impacts of tidal conditions, wave action and wind on the new infrastructure, known as a Metocean Study.
The borough and American Cruise Lines will both pay for the study’s costs equally.
Meeting follows work session on EDA Grant program
The Wrangell Borough Assembly will hold its regular meeting on Jan. 27 at 7 p.m. It will follow a work session on an Economic Development Administration Disaster Supplemental Grant Program.
The program would advance three major infrastructure projects in Wrangell: the Mill property, the downtown waterfront and the flume feeding the upper reservoir.
Both meetings will be in the Borough Assembly Chambers at Wrangell City Hall.
