Wrangell’s local tribe has announced the unofficial results of yesterday’s Tribal council election.
Incumbent Frank Churchill Jr. was re-elected for another two-year term. He tied with Christie Jamieson with 69 votes and won by a coin flip. Other elected board members include Dustin Johnson, who received 91 votes, James Leslie II who got 76, and Ethan “Coven” Petticrew who received 94 votes.
The other nominated contestant, incumbent Richard Oliver, received 54 votes and was not re-elected to his seat. There were also five write-ins during this year’s election: Lovey Brock, Sam Campus, Tony Harding, Richard Rinehart and Amber Wade. None of the write-in candidates were elected to a position on the council.
A total of 136 voters cast ballots in yesterday’s election.
Wrangel Cooperative Association’s eight board members are elected for two-year terms; half of the board runs for re-election each year.
The WCA board sets policies and procedures, and also directs the mission and vision of the federally-recognized tribe.
KSTK reached out to the tribe for more information but did get a response back in time before publication.
