Cultural items return to Alaska tribes through federal grant funding

“There has been a shift with some of these organizations with wanting to return items,” said Carter Price, who writes grants for the Qawalangin Tribe of Unalaska. “I think there’s a recognition that housing some of these items isn’t morally correct. So we’re seeing more work with the tribes and trying to get the artifacts back.”

Alaska Marine Highway System hires a new boss

The state of Alaska has hired a new leader for the Alaska Marine Highway System. Craig Tornga has been hired as the ferry system’s new marine director. In that role, he’ll oversee hundreds of ferry workers and a fleet of nine ships.
