Talk on the Rock: Sue Bahleda on her travels in Rome and Tuscany

Episode 46: Wrangellite Sue Bahleda, who’s the pastor at Island of Faith Lutheran Church, spoke with KSTK’s Colette Czarnecki about her travels in Rome. She’s been visiting Rome almost every year since 1998 and said, “Rome is her place.” Her last visit was last October in 2024. She said she tries to do new things every time she goes. She shared with us her experiences at the Museum of Musical Instruments, a museum that is all about writing and how she ended up in Tuscany harvesting olives.

On the Agenda: Wrangell Assembly preview for Feb. 11

After last year’s potential sale of Wrangell’s Medical Center falling through, the borough assembly on Tuesday might agree on transferring $24,000 from the general fund to the hospital. It would go to the Special Revenue Hospital Legacy Budget for regenerating power costs to the defunct medical center.

A few words with Senator Lisa Murkowski during Wrangell visit

Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski visited Wrangell last month and stopped by KSTK to talk about what the priorities are with the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs. She became chairman this year after serving on the committee since 2003. She’s also the chairman of the subcommittee on Interior and Insular Affairs on the Appropriations Committee. That committee oversees the Forest Service, National Park Service and Bureau of Land Management. It oversees matters related to Native people and Park Service Lands.

Real People, Real Climate, Real Changes makes it way to Wrangell’s Nolan Center

Auliya McCauley-Hartner, program specialist with the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Colorado, came to Wrangell in late January to help set up a traveling exhibit, named Real People, Real Climate, Real Changes, at the Nolan Center. It focuses on the changing climate and has only been transported by ground, until now.

Landslide researchers have more clues about what caused Wrangell’s devastating 2023 slide

It’s been over a year since a landslide devastated the Wrangell community, killing six people. Last month, geologists presented their work from a visit to the slide over the summer.
