Paint, press and print – gyotaku at Bear Fest

About a dozen people during Wrangell’s annual Bear Fest this summer were busy painting dead fish or drying out their fresh new prints with hairdryers in Wrangell’s Nolan Center. The room was mostly quiet, except for the hairdryer blowing and a gentle chatter between people every now and then. Fish from the Fourth of July’s Scrap Derby lay in a cooler full of ice. There’s also rubber molds of salmon and halibut on a table to the side in the large room.

Talk on the Rock: KSTK’s general manager gives an update on how the station is affected from the clawback of federal funds

Episode 65: Last month we had KSTK’s General Manager Cindy Sweat on air talking about the threat of public media. Since then, the House and Senate did pass the recent recissions package, which defunded the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. Sweat hopped on air with KSTK’s News Director Colette Czarnecki to inform the community the newest updates on how that affects Wrangell’s community radio station and other stations nationally.
