Wrangell assembly preview: McKinnon Street and Meyers Chuck

The Wrangell Borough Assembly tonight will consider authorizing loan applications to assist the McKinnon Street improvement project. These loans would address water and sewer utility replacement. One of the loans is at $315,719 from the Alaska Drinking Water State Revolving Loan Program. It would replace approximately 280 ft. of a six-inch asbestos cement water main.

Talk on the Rock: Media makers and educators Brian Hockenstein and Laura Davies on working with students and stories

Episode 64: Wrangell Public School teacher Laura Davies and documentary filmmaker and photographer Brian Hockenstein from British Columbia met earlier this year at the Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival. She brought two of her students who made documentaries to the festival. Shortly after meeting, she asked Hockenstein to visit Wrangell during the summer and work with the students for a week on visual media. In June, he sailed to the island from Vancouver and worked with the students in late July. Davies also organized a film screening at The Nolan Center during that week on a variety of Hockenstein’s work, where he talked to the community about the process and his experience making those films.
