Wrangell Assembly preview: modifying Parks & Rec meeting requirements and sections of the municipal code; plus more

Wrangell’s assembly will consider changing the Parks and Recreation Board’s meeting requirements in the municipal code. At Tuesday’s meeting, the assembly could modify the code from meeting monthly to quarterly. The proposal says the change should relieve any strain that staff and board members experience while putting together monthly meeting packets, according to Parks Director Lucy Robinson.

Wrangell voters will have full ballot next month

Two propositions will be on Wrangell’s ballot in next month’s municipal election.

Blockage in wastewater treatment pipe caused city workers to break pipe open near City Park beach; beachgoers should avoid area

Wrangell’s polishing pond, which is one of the two treatment ponds at the community’s wastewater treatment plant, flooded on Saturday. Staff also noticed that the outfall line wasn’t flowing. That’s the line where treated sewage water flows into the ocean.

Talk on the Rock: Wrangell Kids Club organizers on the new after-school program

Episode 26: Wrangell is about to launch an after-school kids club. Three locations around town will host it: Community Center, Irene Ingle Public Library and The Nolan Center. Organizers of the program, Devyn Johnson, Sarah Scambler and Jeanie Arnold, chat with KSTK’s Colette Czarnecki about why and how the program exists. They go over the activities the kids will experience and encourage parents to talk to their children about respect before they attend.

Master totem pole carver mentors five Wrangell apprentices

Master totem pole carver, TJ Sgwaayaans Young, has been in Wrangell since July. Originally from Hydaburg but resides in Anchorage, he has been guiding local Wrangell carvers on replicating a totem pole. This is the first of eight totem poles that the community plans to replicate.
