Wrangell Public Schools value a balance between healing heartache and routine after the landslide’s fallout

Wrangell Public Schools swiftly moved into action to accommodate the needs of both their students and staff, who were grieving. In addition to the school district’s own behavioral health team, counselors with Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) Behavioral Health Services were also brought in. Wrangell Superintendent Bill Burr says they came from Ketchikan, Sitka and even as far as Anchorage to assist students and staff who were seeking help.

Husband of sole Wrangell landslide survivor found dead in search

A 12-year-old boy is the last person who remains missing in the fatal landslide near Wrangell, after Alaska State Troopers say volunteers found a man’s body Thursday, bringing the disaster’s official death toll to five.

“Search and rescue volunteers and scent detection canines continue with reactive searching in any areas where there may be a clue or evidence that points to a certain area,” Tim DeSpain, a spokesperson for the Alaska State Troopers said over the phone with KSTK.
