Peltola drops in on Wrangell before election

Alaska Representative Mary Peltola has been making her rounds to Alaska communities before this year’s election. Currently, the incumbent Democrat is one of 12 candidates competing for Alaska’s singular seat. She visited Wrangell on Friday during her Southeast Alaska tour and stopped by KSTK. Rally for Cancer Care is back at Muskeg Meadows Saturday

The WMC Foundation and Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium, SEARHC, will be raising funds at this Saturday’s annual Rally for Cancer Care. The fun and quirky golfing event will be held at Muskeg Meadows, Wrangell’s golf course. Raised funds go towards healthcare scholarships and to support transporting Southeast Alaskans to cancer appointments. WMC used to stand for Wrangell Medical Center, but Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium, SEARHC, took over the center years ago.

Talk on the Rock: Isabel Grant on how to minimize conflict with bears

Episode 22: A couple weeks ago when Bear Fest was happening in Wrangell, Isabel Grant from Defenders of Wildlife, a national conservation organization, spoke. She represents Alaska for the organization and is responsible for managing bear coexistence programs, like the Electric Fence Incentive Program. She chats with KSTK’s Colette Czarnecki about bears and how to coexist while minimizing conflicts with the large animals.
