Southeast businesses request more Tongass recreation funding

Fifty Southeast Alaska business-owners are asking Congress to give more money to the Tongass National Forest recreation program. Funding for trails, cabins and wildlife-viewing sites has declined in recent years, and tour operators worry the Forest Service won’t be able to maintain the attractions they depend on.

Parks and Rec proposes fee changes

Wrangell’s Parks and Recreation Department is proposing a change in facility fees. The last proposal was rejected by the borough assembly.

Car goes through Bobs’ IGA front window

A Wrangell resident drove a car through the front windows of Bobs’ IGA grocery store in Wrangell Thursday. Wrangell Police Chief Doug McCloskey said there were no serious injuries.
