The National Weather Service in Juneau uses digital barometer readings from the Wrangell Airport to help forecast our local weather. In the first part of KSTK's two part informational series on the barometer we learned how a barometer senses changes in atmospheric pressure. In the second part of the informational series we take a look at how the readings from the barometer are used to forecast the weather. KSTK's Kelley Decker reports.

The Healthy Wrangell Coalition has designation this Wednesday, September 24, as walk or bike to school or work day. The coalition encourages everyone in Wrangell to leave the vehicle at home that day and put on those walking shoes or dust off that bike.

In its third year, the Alaska Marketplace competition encourages the development of sustainable businesses by tapping into the creative and cultural knowledge of rural Alaskan residents. Of the 164 eligible applications that came in from around the state, 46 finalists have been announced, and Wrangell resident Tis Peterman is one of them. KSTK's Lisa Phu caught up with Peterman and they spoke about the Wrangell Community E-Store.

It's been a hundred years since the Star of Bengal left Wrangell for San Francisco carrying over a 130 passengers, 52,000 cases of canned Wrangell salmon, and dozens of empty oil drums. Early the following morning, a sudden September storm caused the Star of Bengal to wreck on the rocks off the southern tip of Coronation Island. Only 22 survived.

The Wrangell Museum has recently been awarded a grant from the Rasmuson Foundation. Twenty-five thousand dollars will go towards making the museum's extensive collection of photographs accessible to the public with a touch of a button.
