Tis Peterman is finalist for Alaska Marketplace

In its third year, the Alaska Marketplace competition encourages the development of sustainable businesses by tapping into the creative and cultural knowledge of rural Alaskan residents. Of the 164 eligible applications that came in from around the state, 46 finalists have been announced, and Wrangell resident Tis Peterman is one of them. Star of Bengal wrecked 100 years ago

It's been a hundred years since the Star of Bengal left Wrangell for San Francisco carrying over a 130 passengers, 52,000 cases of canned Wrangell salmon, and dozens of empty oil drums. Early the following morning, a sudden September storm caused the Star of Bengal to wreck on the rocks off the southern tip of Coronation Island. Only 22 survived.
