Wrangell questions future of hydro project

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) recently denied Cascade Creek LLC a permit to continue studying the development of a hydroelectric power plant in Thomas Bay Northeast of Petersburg. The end of the private company’s licensing process could mean that Wrangell might never get back its financial contribution to the project. KSTK’s Charlotte Duren talks with former Assembly members about what the City plans to do if the project does not move forward.

Wrangell set to receive community orchard

Wrangell was one of twenty communities to win Dryer’s Fruit Bars’ “Community Take Root” contest last year. The program gives trees to communities through a non-profit known as the Fruit Tree Planting Foundation. Wrangell will receive more than 30 trees and plant its first community orchard. Master Carver selected to honor fallen guardsmen

The Sitka based U.S. Coast Guard ‘Cutter Maple’ recently made a stop in Wrangell to meet with master carver Wayne Price, and pick up two red cedar trees that Price will use to create a memorial totem pole later this month in Sitka. KSTK’s Charlotte Duren has more.

Blessing ceremony held for totem poles on Chief Shakes Island

On Monday, August 29th members of the Wrangell Cooperative Association, master carvers, and Tlingit elders gathered at Chief Shakes Island to bless the totem poles before restoration work begins. KSTK’s Charlotte Duren has more on the ceremony and what's next for the project.
