The first-ever Alaska Bearfest kicked off this week. In Wrangell, you can't talk about bears without mentioning the Anan Bear Observatory. The Observatory is one of the Wrangell Ranger District's biggest attractions. KSTK's Tony Gorman went down to Anan last week and filed this report.

Women from all over Southeast came out for the annual "Rally For The Cure" event last weekend. In addition to enjoying great company and a good game of golf, participants helped raise money for breast cancer awareness and research. KSTK's Tony Gorman reports.

Rally for the Cure women's golf event is coming to Wrangell's Muskeg Meadows for the fourth year in a row. Women of all ages, golfers and non-golfers alike, are invited to participate in Rally for the Cure, which takes place on August 15. The event promises to raise awareness of breast cancer and the importance of early detection, as well as provide for some good old girl fun. KSTK's Lisa Phu brings us the story.

Despite competing FERC permit applications for Ruth Lake as well as some other disagreements regarding energy in the region, Wrangell and Petersburg may soon be working toward the same goals once again. At last week's commission board meeting of Thomas Bay Power Authority, the commissioners decided to take the leadership role in finding common ground between the two communities on power development. The Alaska Department of Fish and Game is predicting that this year's pink salmon run will fare better than last year. While Alaska Fish and Game is gearing up for pinks, sockeyes have improved after a slow start. KSTK's Tony Gorman has more.
