Tax-free day in Wrangell is this Saturday. This means that all day Saturday, Wrangell businesses will not be charging the city's retail sales tax of 7%.

The Empress of the North has recently announced the cancellation of their last seven sailings in southeast due to soft advanced bookings. While this will undoubtedly impact all the southeast towns it visits, Wrangell will be among the hardest hit. The Empress of the North is Wrangell's only consistent visiting cruise ship.

GCI is currently implementing a new $30-million fiber optic network in southeast. 754 miles of fiber optic cable will connect Wrangell, Petersburg, Ketchikan, Sitka, and Angoon to the Alaska United line, which currently connects Alaska to the lower 48.

The Wrangell Medical Center has recently gone digital for x-rays, mammograms, and ultrasounds. This means a faster turnaround time in getting results, higher resolution for images, and most importantly, better patient care.

The borough assembly of Wrangell has not signed a confidentiality and non-circumvention agreement with Cascade Creek LLC. But the possibility of it happening is still there.
