On October 7, voters will get to pick two borough assembly members, one port commission, one school board member, and three hospital board members. Qualified Wrangell residents have until Friday to file for candidacy for any of the seats.

The 2008 primary election is taking place on Tuesday August 26. Voters will get to weigh in on four ballot measures and there are candidate races for United States senator, United States representative, state senator, and state representative. For district two, which encompasses Wrangell, Petersburg, and Sitka, there are four candidates running to fill the seat of house representative – two candidates running in the republican primary and two candidates running in the democratic primacy. This week KSTK has been airing interviews with all four candidates. Today we'll hear an interview with Lily Herwald. Herwald is a grant writer for the Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium and is running in the democratic primary against fellow Sitka resident Marko Dapcevich.

The Alaska Municipal League legislative committee and the Alaska Conference of Mayors are holding their summer meeting in Wrangell August 27 and 28. All meetings are being held in the Nolan center. Up to 65 people throughout the state are expected to attend.

Wilson is the four-term incumbent and is running in the republican primary against Steven Samuelson.

At a recent Wrangell borough assembly meeting, the assembly voted down what could've been the first step in pursuing ownership of the Tyee Hydro Project. The Tyee Hydro Project is currently owned by the Four Dam Pool Power Agency and serves both the communities of Wrangell and Petersburg.
