A 13-year old middle schooler from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, recently had the experience of a lifetime in Wrangell. Not only did she get to see all the great sites, including Anan Bear Observatory, the Stikine River, Chief Shakes house, and a multitude of wildlife, she also had an NBC film crew follow her around. Her vacation will be turned into a half-hour documentary. All this for winning an essay contest.

The Alaska Native Sisterhood is hosting a workshop to teach the traditional way to smoke fish. Fish donations are being collected for the event and the event is open to the community. Kelley Decker met with Lovey Brock and filed this report.

The Central Council of the Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska is once again offering the Tlingit-Haida Summer Youth Program for ages 14 to 21. This program, which places Native youth students in a work environment, runs until August 22 and it's not too late to apply.

The confidentiality and non-circumvention agreement between the city and borough of Wrangell and Cascade Creek, LLC went into effect June 24. The borough assembly's subcommittee had their first meeting with a Cascade Creek representative this past Saturday, during which the first pieces of confidential information were disclosed.

When the crew of the disabled cruise vessel Spirit of Glacier Bay noticed the boat was taking on water Thursday evening, the Coast Guard instructed the cruise ship to stop in Wrangell for inspection. On Friday morning, Ketchikan-based company Alaska Commercial Divers was on the scene and sent one of its divers to find out what was causing the leak.
