The Coast Guard is in Wrangell to conduct courtesy dockside exams for commercial fishing vessels. Boat owners can schedule an exam between now and Sunday, June 8. KSTK's Lisa Phu met up with commercial fishing vessel examiner Tim Clepper at Wrangell's Heritage Harbor and found out more about what the exam entails.

The event people in Wrangell look forward to the most is the fourth of July. The kick-off was held on Sunday, and while the big day is still over a month away, preparation for the fourth is a full-year task for the Chamber of Commerce. And a long, hard month's work for the royalty contestants.

Around twenty people attended the Alaska Energy Authority town hall meeting held in Wrangell last week. Attendees were mostly Wrangell residents, but some were from Petersburg and other communities in southeast. And all were eager to see how the state can help solve their energy problems.

The city council of Wrangell may be heading in a different direction than the Thomas Bay Power Authority, the entity which operates Tyee Lake for both Wrangell and Petersburg. The Wrangell council continues to lean towards signing a confidentiality and non-circumvention agreement with private company Cascade Creek. Meanwhile, the Thomas Bay Power Commission wants Petersburg and Wrangell to consider developing a hydropower project on their own.

The city council approved extending Bob Prunella's contract as city manager until June 2009. During an open session of the city manager's evaluation, Prunella and the council discussed job performance and Prunella's future retirement.
