Alaska and Washington Tribes oppose B.C. proposal to limit environmental consultation

British Columbia sent a letter in late January to Alaska and Washington state Tribes informing them that the Province is proposing to amend the Environmental Assessment Act, excluding U.S. Tribes from government consultations related to environmental projects. If the proposal passes through the legislative process in Victoria, U.S.-based Tribes say the Province would essentially lock them into a lower tier of participation, which would negatively affect their communities when considering mines and infrastructure near the border.

Wrangell assembly preview: federal disaster grant and JAG Marine Group partnership

Wrangell’s borough assembly on Tuesday night will consider approving applying for an EDA – or Economic Development Administration for Disaster Supplemental Grant. The municipality qualifies for this federal grant because of the 2023 fatal landslide. The purpose of the grant is to advance infrastructure, diversify local economies and strengthen economic resilience after disruption.
